Momentum

Place your ramps, let the ball build speed, then slow it down before the cup.

A ball falls down a grid. You place the ramps, then you drop it, and it has to land in the cup at the bottom. That is the whole game, and it stays that simple for as long as it takes you to notice the catch.

The ball speeds up as it falls, and a ramp turns that speed into distance. The faster it arrives, the further a ramp throws it. And the cup only keeps a slow ball: arrive at full speed and it bounces straight back out. So a level is never only about reaching the cup. It is about slowing the ball down before it gets there.

The order you place the ramps in changes where the ball ends up. That is what makes the later grids hard, and it is the reason the game is called what it is called.

In the game

Momentum: the ball has picked up speed and a ramp throws it several cells
Speed arrives. A ramp now throws the ball as far as it was falling fast.
The ball in mid fall, running down the ramps placed for it
Everything is placed, the ball is falling, and there is nothing left to do but watch.
A trampoline: the ball bounces off a taut sheet and carries on the way it was going
The trampoline. It throws the ball back up, not quite as high as it fell, and sends it on the way it was already going.
The same grid on cream paper, one of the game's four palettes
Four palettes, one of them light and one with raised contrast. The board is the same, only the colours change.

In practice

The rules arrive one at a time. The first levels are a single ramp on a small grid. Each new rule is shown before it is needed, with two animated examples: one where it fails, one where it works.
